Today it’s about the tracksuit from the movie The Gentlemen. Apologies in advance to all loyal readers who are likely to wonder why I am writing about a tracksuit, although otherwise this page is always about pocket squares.
Why a tracksuit?
Almost two years ago I saw the movie The Gentlemen. At the time, the film had just come out. A really great film and recommended for any elegant gentleman, especially because of the great English-style outfits. But that’s not supposed to be a film review 😀 . I especially noticed the tracksuit of the boxers from the boxing club. After the movie I was dying to know what brand this suit was so I could buy one too. I researched all night. After my research I created this page.
A lot has changed since then and that’s why this page is now updated. There are now really many such tracksuits. Hence this summary of the checked tracksuit. I would like to help you with my research.
The suits I was able to find fall into 3 categories. The cheapest suits can be found on Amazon. They really aren’t worth much. However, they are sufficient if you only want to wear the tracksuit 2-3 times at home. Then there’s the suit from the original manufacturer from the movie. The suits are much better made, but are made of polyester. This fabric isn’t exactly known for durability. And then there are higher quality, but also more expensive suits. They are sold in the same shop from germany as the original suits. Absolute fans should stop by there.
What was the result of my research?
According to an interview with The Gentlemen’s costume designer Michael Wilkinson, the jogging suits worn by the boxers were custom-made specifically for this film. It was a cooperation with a company from London. The Lonsdale company produces such a casual sports suit. In my opinion, these tracksuits didn’t turn out as well as they did in the film. For example, I miss the quilted look. The quilted look in particular made a big difference for me. The selection of different colors is also not as large as in the film. They are also made of polyester, which is a very flexible and comfortable material, but not a durable one.
The tracksuits are priced in the medium price range. If you want to afford an original tracksuit from Lonsdale, there are the 5 models here. The technical fabric is inspired by suit fabrics with an all-over print and comes very close to those from the film The Gentlemen. Both the jacket and the pants have pockets. He has elastic cuffs with color accents. Some has the Lonsdale logo as lettering on the chest and pants. Some has a lion on the chest and pants of the tracksuit.
Don’t worry. For those who have the highest demands on workmanship and quality, there are also high-end suits with additional details.
The tracksuits in the film
First about the jogging suits in the film: The coach is played by Colin Farrell. He portrays a forgiving mentor of a group of guys who feel involved in the film’s drama. Colin Farrell and his crew don’t wear ordinary tracksuits. These are high-end suits.
Wilkinson says in an interview that the sports clothes are based on classic English suit fabrics, which they then enlarged, made more lively and printed on a modern quilted technical fabric. They wanted to show in the film how different groups of people can interpret this classic “English”. In this case, a more modern, elegant update for street clothing and casual sportswear.
In the film, the tracksuit is then combined with a polo shirt underneath, making it extremely elegant.

This men’s jogging suit really comes very close to those from the film. It has the same style as bomber jackets and the rubbers are also provided with horizontal stripes. The stripe on the arm can also be found again. The suit also has the plaid pattern and not a simple buffalo pattern. Unfortunately, the jogging suit is not quilted. However, I couldn’t find any quilted jogging suits.

The jogging suits for the boxers in the movie is custom-made by Lonsdale. The quality of the ones you can buy on internet is okay but there are even better ones.
